Jose Gutierrez Obituary, Death – At the age of 89, Jose Gutierrez of San Benito passed away on October 4, 2022, at the Harlingen Medical Center. He was taken to be with our Lord. His devoted parents, Pedro Gutierrez and Maria Rosales, as well as his siblings Miro Gutierrez, Guadalupe Lupe Gutierrez, Ester Chavarria, and Estella Trevino, passed away before he was born. He is the only survivor of his immediate family.
His devoted wife, Rita C. Gutierrez, is the only one who will carry on the tradition of honoring his memory. Also surviving are his children; Lupita (Israel) Martinez, and their children; Johnny Ray Martinez, Israel Ray Martinez, Joseph Anthony Martinez, and Alexander Ignacio Martinez, Jose Carlos Gutierrez, Arnold Gutierrez (Laura Naranjo), and their children; Kaitlyn Jo Ramos, and Kaleb Arnold Gutierrez, along with his surviving brothers; Andres Gutierrez and Pedro (Nito) Gutierrez. And finally, his incredible caregiver Braulio Mendoza, who deserves special recognition.
Jose believed that he had no choice but to answer the call to arms and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. A bus driver for the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District, he also spent 25 years working for Hygeia in Harlingen. He was a rabid supporter of both the Houston Astros and the Dallas Cowboys. He was the kind of man who would always put the needs of others above his own, regardless of the consequences.
He was a man who cared deeply about his family and gave them his whole attention. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place at 7 o’clock on Friday, October 7, 2022, at the Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, during the visitation that will take place from 5 to 9 o’clock in the evening.
