Michael Shipowick Obituary, Death- When we look back on Michael Shipowick, who passed away at the age of 102 after serving as Honorary Director for Life of the UCU, all of us who have gathered here today have a profound sense of loss. Michael Shipowick was a member of the UCU for 102 years. He remained in this role right up until the moment he passed away. Mr. Shipowick was very involved in the Ukrainian Canadian cooperative movement and spent a significant amount of time serving as a member of the board of directors of the So-Use Credit Union.
In addition, Mr. Shipowick was very active in the Canadian cooperative movement. After that, he obtained important experience working for Ontario Hydro and Stelco, where he went on to develop his own business, which is now known as Celcius Inc. He left both positions in order to start his own business. Mr. Shipowick leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of devotion not just to the Ukrainian Canadian Union (UCU), but also to the greater Ukrainian Canadian community as a whole. Everyone will grieve his passing in their own unique ways.
On behalf of our Board of Directors and our Management Team, we would like to offer our most sincere condolences to Mr. Shipowick’s family in their time of loss. We are truly sorry for the loss you have suffered. The loss of Mr. Shipowick has left us in a state of sadness that is difficult to put into words. The Board of Directors of the UCU came to the conclusion that they wanted to show their thanks to him for his efforts to the successful completion of the credit union’s merger with thus-Use in the year 2010, thus they decided to bestow the title of honorary director upon him.
Mr. Shipowick is a successful businessman who attended the University of Saskatchewan to acquire a degree in mechanical engineering. He moved there so that he might further his schooling.
