Deputies in Spartanburg County opened fire early on Friday morning, resulting in the death of a man who was holding a child hostage. The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies arrived at 3:20 a.m. to a complaint about a disturbance with weapons on Coldstream Drive in Boiling Springs. According to the statements made by the sheriff’s office, a youngster called 911 and reported that her father was holding a rifle in addition to a shotgun and was making threats to shoot someone in the house as well as himself. When the deputies arrived at the scene, they were able to make contact with another individual who was currently inside the residence, who confirmed the circumstances.
He informed the deputies that there were a number of additional children in the residence. The deputies made several attempts to get in touch with the man, but they were unsuccessful. The guy and all of the children, with the exception of one, were able to flee the house by climbing out of a window, according to the sheriff’s office. The man started coming in and out of the house with a rifle while holding the other child hostage and aiming the gun at the hostage, deputies, and himself. Eventually, the perpetrator was taken into custody. According to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, the man, who has been named as 42-year-old Somchan Dan Somsanith, passed away at the scene just after 4:30 a.m. as a result of the injuries he sustained.
